Synodal Journey and Religious Life
Synodal Journey and Religious LIfe
The two Unions of Superiors General are participating the Diocesan phase of the Synodal Journey. Months ago they sent a Letter to all the Superior members of UISG and USG inviting them to send their reflections by March 27.
"In fact, it is a question of discerning together what is - from the perspective of consecrated life - the way of synodality that God expects from the Church in this historical moment." You read in the Letter of UISG and USG.
A panel of four Theologians will gather the answers from the Religious Congregations and will prepare a syntesis to be sent to the Secretariat of Synod.
One of the fours Theologians is Sr Maria Cimpermann. In a Q&A Interview she explains more on her passion for Synodality:
"Normally, we're just in our own little worlds, and this is flying in the face of that, and you don't know where it's going to go, which means it's probably Spirit guiding it.
The whole synodal process is really communal discernment. How do we walk with each other and hear each other? And if we do it right, it may not be that dominant voice that stands out, it may be that quiet voice you hear and say, "There is truth in this." The whole impetus behind it is wonderful.
How do we invite and engage religious everywhere in this so it's not only the leaders, it's everyone in the church and even people not in the church?"
Who is Sr Maria Cimpermann?
She is a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Associate Professor of Catholic Theological Ethics, and Director of the Center for the Study of Consecrated Life at Catholic Theological Union. She is part of a four-person panel assembled by the International Union of Superiors General (women) and the Union of Superiors General (men) to collect and synthesize responses from congregations of religious as part of the synodal process.
