Dilexit Nos: Pope Francis’ New Encyclical on the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Pope Francis has released his fourth encyclical, Dilexit Nos (He Loved Us), focused on the human and divine love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. This document arises from the need for a world, amidst wars and imbalances, to recover "what is most important: the heart."
The encyclical is being published during the celebrations for the 350th anniversary of the apparition of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, on the eve of the Jubilee and in the final phase of the 2021-2024 Synod. It consists of five chapters and 220 paragraphs.
If with Laudato Si’, the Pope envisioned the world as God intends it to be, and with Fratelli Tutti, he outlined how to achieve it, with Dilexit Nos, he teaches how to prepare the heart through faith and love. The five chapters cover:
1. The importance of the heart in the modern world
2. The gestures and words of Christ’s love
3. The Church’s reflection on the Heart of Jesus
4. The re-reading of Sacred Scriptures
5. The communal and social dimension of devotion
This document is presented as a spiritual response to the current challenges, including conflicts in Ukraine and the Holy Land, proposing a path based on love and mutual understanding rather than the logic of force.
