Asia Online Workshop: A New Approach to Interculturality in Religious Formation

Asia Online Workshop: A New Approach to Interculturality in Religious Formation

The International Union Superiors General (UISG) announces the launch of an important initiative aimed at promoting interculturality in religious formation. With the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the objective is to provide sisters with practical tools and in-depth knowledge to foster dialogue and collaboration among diverse cultures—elements that are fundamental for ministry and community life.

This initiative is designed as an intensive program that offers participants the opportunity to engage in dialogue and work in teams to develop concrete action plans aimed at implementing intercultural formation programs. The adopted approach seeks to enhance the capacity of congregations to integrate interculturality into their formation processes, thereby contributing to the building of stronger, more inclusive, and forward-looking communities.

In particular, the workshop is targeted at Asian congregations, inviting them to submit teams that meet specific selection criteria

  • The team (4–7 sisters) must include at least one member of the leadership (provincial or general, if of diocesan right), one sister with experience in formation ministry, and at least two young sisters under the age of 40.
  • Proficiency in English, Indonesian, Korean, or Vietnamese is required, along with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in diverse cultural contexts is appreciated, though not mandatory.
  • Participation requires a willingness to offer intercultural training to leaders, formators, or other members of the congregation/religious conference.
  • A reliable internet connection.

UISG reaffirms its commitment to promoting a formation that not only meets the needs of the present but also looks to the future by integrating the intercultural dimension as an essential element for a Church that is increasingly responsive to the realities of its members.
