The Power of Hope: Transformations in Consecrated Life

The Power of Hope: Transformations in Consecrated Life

As announced in recent weeks, the XXIII UISG Plenary Assembly will be held from 5 to 9 May 2025 in Rome at the Ergife Palace Hotel and the theme chosen is ‘Consecrated Life: a hope that transforms.'

We asked the sisters for a personal reflection on the theme of hope: what does ‘hope that transforms’ mean? How does hope transform the sisters' daily lives? What are their hopes related to the upcoming Assembly?

We share with you the testimony of Sr. Christine Mynsong, Superior general of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians

1. What does “a hope that transforms” mean to me?

  • To me it is a feeling of optimism and confidence that is so needed in these trying times.
  • This hope is a result of trust – a childlike trust in God who has willed every charism into existence.
  • It is an attitude that can make religious life today a catalyst for change and growth in the faith life of the Church in the world today.

2. How does hope transform my daily life as a consecrated woman and/or Superior General?

  • As a woman, it reminds of the positivity that I am called to bring to every situation that I find myself in
  • As a consecrated person, it makes me think of my responsibility to be a sign of hope for everyone around me, to possess a positive attitude that can bring positive response any situation
  • As a Superior General it speaks to me about my relationship with God, on which I depend in fulfilling my everyday commitment and life’s mission.

3. What are my hopes linked to the next UISG Plenary Assembly?

  • That the Assembly throws light on the challenges involved in the task of guiding a congregation, in the present times.
  • That as an ecclesial body, UISG would work towards evolving a singular and holistic vision to be shared by the varied congregations in responding to global issues, towards transformation in the Church and the entire humanity.
  • That UISG grows more to be a means to promote solidarity   in mutually enriching each other’s spirituality.
